Families & Chronic Illness

The benefits of sport

This clip shows young Indigenous people discussing the positive effects of their involvement in a team sport over the time they have acted as the carer of a family member with a chronic illness. They describe how playing sport is an outlet from responsibilities, and how team members and coaches can provide additional emotional support. This clip is part of a series in which young people talk about living in families where a family member has a chronic illness.

These Speaking from Experience clips feature nine young Indigenous people who share their experiences of living with a family member with a chronic illness. It was produced in partnership with the Chronic Illness Alliance and Aboriginal Medical Service of Western Sydney .
